Through its superior program, Human Resources Development Program (HRDP), DDTC continues to provide opportunities for its employees to expand their knowledge, in the field of taxation in particular, both in the country or abroad. This time, DDTC carries out its HRDP program by sending several employees to attend a course on acquisition and merger and the taxation implication of acquisition and merger transactions, held on 21st March 2017 in Singapore. Fortunately, I was one of the employees given the opportunity by DDTC to attend the course.

The course was held by the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) on 21st March 2017, with a program titled “Getting a Good Deal by Understanding Taxation Aspects of M&A and Tax Due Diligence”. The course program was facilitated by Jack HM Wong, a renowned tax lawyer in Singapore. Apart from teaching at ISCA, Jack also teaches at University of Bedfordshire (UK), University of Portsmouth (UK), Birmingham City University (UK), Murdoch University (Australia), and SIM University (Singapore). Through the course I attended, I gained a lot regarding the stages of merger and acquisition, types of merger and acquisition, the scope of tax due dilligence process, and tax implications on merger and acquisition based on Singapore’s regulations. Other than discussing the theories, the course also discusses cases related to merger and acquisition and the best possible solution to overcome the issues arising from merger and acquisition transactions. Thus, I was able to comprehend how Singapore reacts towards merger and acquisition and tax due diligence issues, and to extract important points regarding the issues as reference and advice materials when I am faced with cases related to merger and acquisition in the future. Apart from attending the course, I was also given the chance to do some sight-seeing in Singapore for 2 (two) days.

For all that, I am grateful to DDTC for having given the precious opportunity for me to attend this course to expand my knowledge and for having given me the bonus of sightseeing for 2 (two) days in Singapore. This trip has been an outstanding experience to me. Thank you, DDTC!
